The Sensometric Society

The Sensometric Society

Sensometrics is the scientific area that applies mathematical and statistical methods to problems and investigations in sensory and consumer sciences. The Sensometric Society brings together statisticians, psychologists, sensory scientists and market researchers, from business and academia, with a shared interest in the design and analysis of studies focused on responses to the sensorial properties of products.

The most common area of application is the perception and affective response to food and drinks, although other common areas of application are the evaluation of home and personal care items (such as detergents and shampoos), the feel of fabrics and paper goods, and the visual assessments of products and packages.

The Society has met every other year since 1992, with the Conference in Brighton being the 13th. Conference activities include presentations of scientific papers (oral and poster), product demonstrations by Exhibitors and the Society’s Annual General Meeting.

The main aims of the Conference are:

  • To increase the awareness of the special methodologies and statistical methods used in the analysis of sensory and consumer science data;
  • To improve the communication and co-operation between persons interested in the scientific principles, methods and applications of sensometrics;
  • To serve as an interdisciplinary meeting to disseminate scientific knowledge on the field of sensometrics.
